Lewis Silverberg OBITUARY

Lewis (Lew) Silverberg died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 12, 2025. A lover of life, humor and good wine, Lew shared many memorable times with family, friends and business associates. Former US Senator and Governor of California, Pete Wilson, re Lew fondly dating back to their first meeting 62 years ago and commented “I treasured Lew’s friendship, appreciated both his wit and wisdom and trusted him implicitly.” Many of us who knew Lew would voice the same statement.

Lew was born on November 1, 1934, in Los Angeles, to Marjorie and Milton Silverberg. He attended Pomona College, was President of the Class of 1955, and remained a lifelong er and donor. Lew received his law degree from UCLA in 1958. After law school, Lew moved his young family to San Diego and practiced law for 30 years forming the firm of Fredman, Silverberg and Lewis. After retirement, he served as an officer and director of a number of startup businesses and real estate investments.

Lew ed the Zoological Society of San Diego in 1981 and was asked to the Board of Trustees in 1991, which he served until 1999. One of Lew’s most lasting contributions to the San Diego Zoo was creating the President’s Associates, a fundraising group which remains active. Among other nonprofit organizations, Lew was a member of the Grossmont Hospital Foundation Board of Governors until he and his wife of 46 years moved east to live in Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania.

Lew is survived by Alice, who said, “Ours is an extraordinary and abiding love story, spanning nearly a half century, beginning with mutual respect and filled with gratitude, laughter and adventure. I was fortunate to share his love and devotion for his children, Steve, Rick, and Donna, and to receive their love in return.” Also surviving are his granddaughter, Lexi Twist, his sister Sue Lyon, brother, Mike Silverberg, and nieces and nephews from both sides of the family. Lew loved and ed them all in various ways and he held a special relationship, bond and love for his nephew, Bob Hasson.

All who knew and loved Lew will miss his laughter, insights, kind leadership, and love of life.
