Born February 10, 1939, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Ken was the quintessential Navy “brat.” Of all his temporary homes, there were two highlights: Japan, where in early high school he hiked to the top of Mt. Fuji, and San Diego, the place he fell in love with as a child, and to which he aspired to return. Upon his father’s retirement, his family returned to Waukegan, IL, the place he considered his hometown. Ken graduated from Waukegan High School and then attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earning a degree in business and a commission in the US Navy. After graduation, the Navy brought him back to Southern California. While ashore in Long Beach, he met and fell in love with the beautiful chemist, Margaret Reinhart. They were married January 23, 1965. After completing his naval service, Ken moved his young family to his beloved San Diego.

For over 35 years, Ken was a commercial loan officer helping finance local small businesses and community organizations. Among Ken’s greatest joys were ing his kids and giving back to his community through schools and community organizations. Ken was an avid er of youth soccer, serving as manager of multiple youth sports teams. Through the years, he served on the boards of impactful community and non-profit organizations, including the San Diego International Air & Space Hall of Fame, the Point Loma Optimist Club, and San Diego YMCA Youth & Family Services.
