
There will be many opportunities to watch free movies in Pacific Beach this summer.
San Diego County’s annual Summer Movies in the Park series will include three films in PB, all starting at dusk. Attendees are advised to bring lawn chairs or blankets for grass seating, along with snacks, though some venues will have treats available for purchase.
The first film is Disney-Pixar’s “Toy Story.” The 1995 animated family comedy will be shown on Saturday, June 7 outside the Pacific Beach/Taylor Library, 4275 Cass Street.
The library will also be the venue for the 1994 version of Disney’s “The Lion King.” The animated film is rated G and will be shown on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
“The Wild Robot” is a 2024 family sci-fi animated film that is rated PG. It can be seen on Aug. 22 at the Santa Clara Recreation Center, 1008 Santa Clara Place.
In addition to these outdoor films, the Pacific Beach/Taylor Library will be showing several movies this summer indoors as part of its summer reading program. All are films featuring or based on games.
This month’s offerings are “Game Night,” a 2018 film that is rated R shown at 4 p.m. Monday, June 16; and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” an animated 2023 film rated PG. It will be shown at 1 p.m. Friday, June 20.
The July offerings are “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” a 2023 film rated PG-13 and shown at 4 p.m. Monday, July 14. “Jumanji: The Next Level” is a 2019 film also rated PG-13 that can be seen at 1 p.m. Friday, July 18.
The August movies will be “Free Guy,” a 2021 film rated PG-13 shown at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19 and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” a 2024 film rated PG that will be shown at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22.
