A classic “May gray” weather pattern will settle across San Diego County on Monday and likely last the entire week, making the region cooler than normal and possibly producing drizzle on Tuesday, the National Weather Service says.
Strong winds out of the west also will develop east of Interstate 15 on Monday night, generating winds that could hit 45 mph, especially in the stretch of Interstate 8 east of Alpine. The sharp gusts will last into Tuesday.
These conditions will be very different than they were on Saturday, when several new heat records were set for May 10. Ramona reached 100, breaking the previous record of 91, set in 1981. Alpine rose to 100, which was 6 degrees higher than the previous record, set in 1960. Campo got up to 98, four degrees higher than the region set in 1960. And Vista hit 91, two degrees higher than the record set in 1984.
The temperature is expected to be in the mid-to-low 60s on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night when the Padres host the Angels at Petco Park. All three games will begin at 6:40 p.m.
A mixed swell will produce surf in the 2-to-4 foot range on Monday and 3-to-5 foot range on Tuesday, the weather service said. Sea surface temperatures will be in the 59-to-64 degree range.
