Re “Meeting decorum another victim of COVID-19 pandemic” (April 27): It is a common misconception of the ill-informed that whoever utters a vulgar word or statement first wins an argument. I would imagine most people who read the above sentence would agree with it.

The excellent article by Steven P. Dinkin succinctly points out the problems and possible solutions to the coarsening of public debate.

The sad truth is the well-informed newspaper, magazine and book readers will acknowledge the soundness of the points expressed, while the uninformed will remain oblivious to the obvious as they seem to shun the written word.
