Re “Brush clearing reforms to curb fires lag” (April 24): Hundreds of homes and businesses adjacent to and within range of fast-moving flames from city-owned property in high-risk areas are threatened by the city’s abdication of its responsibility for flammable brush management for wildfire prevention.

We’ve all witnessed up close the L.A. catastrophe, yet to date our city government has done little to meet its responsibility to mitigate our substantial exposure to such a disaster here. And now we read that in his draft budget Mayor Gloria refuses to fund even the auditors’ recommended baseline resources to address the potential consequences our community faces: hundreds of destroyed homes and displaced families.

Already insurance carriers are cancelling homeowner policies and doubling or more the s on many others as one consequence of our city government’s dereliction.

Must we take legal action to compel the city government to act responsibly?
