Re “EPA chief’s weighing in on sewage crisis is welcome. But there’s a twist.” (April 11): Some local politicians back having state and federal taxpayers fix the Tijuana sewage problem. The idea that American taxpayers should take responsibility for this disgusting problem is wrong. If your neighbor drained his household sewer into your yard, would you expect others on your block to pay for ongoing cleanup? Of course not. The U.S. government has a role here: to force the Mexican government to fix the problem it has dumped on us.

I’m glad that EPA Lee Zeldin came here Tuesday to take a look at the problem. The Trump istration is pressuring Mexico about human smuggling and fentanyl. Add sewage to the list.
