Re “San Diego pays out $1.5M for crashes, dog bite and sewer leak” (March 17): So many questions regarding the city paying $450,000 to a person who made a U-turn in front of a police car speeding with lights flashing and siren blaring. Did the driver not think to look in her mirrors before she made the U-turn? Is she blind and deaf?

Most drivers know to stay out of the way of police cars in these circumstances, yet the city is willing to compensate her with a nearly half million dollar payout for something that appears to be her fault. I understand that all of the facts cannot be included in an article, but the ones chosen to be stated here lead me to one conclusion — that being that if I ever tangle with a city vehicle, I will be paid, regardless of me not taking responsibility for my actions.
