Re “Leon Williams, who shaped San Diego and paved way for Black leaders, dies at 102” (March 5): Long ago, when Leon Williams was a county supervisor and I was San Diego’s lifeguard chief, I came to know him very well, not as a politician, but as a person. What an extraordinary individual. Gracious, soft-spoken, thoughtful and impactful. Each time I have seen him since, he has had a kind word and we’ve reminisced. He was the epitome of a caring human being. We could use more Leon Williams in the world.
