UPDATED:

An 88-year-old man who mistakenly hit his vehicle’s accelerator instead of the brake while parking crashed into two people at a Del Mar park Sunday afternoon, a sheriff’s official said.

The incident happened shortly after 2:15 p.m. at Powerhouse Park on Coast Boulevard. The driver’s car jumped a curb and drove into the park, striking the two people, said sheriff’s Lt. Colin Hebeler.

They were transported to a hospital to be checked out. Hebeler said he didn’t know their conditions but said deputies reported they didn’t have any obvious injuries.

No other details were immediately available.
