Don’t blame ‘The Bubble Pirate’ for condition of Scripps Park
It’s ridiculous to blame the state of Scripps Park on “The Bubble Pirate” (“Local performer gets littering ticket over ‘prohibited fluids’ in La Jolla park,” Sept. 5, La Jolla Light).
That park has not been watered since last year’s rains! The new grass at the south end where the drain repairs were done is dead. Pirate is never there.
I haven’t seen the tractor mower in years, nor the sprinklers!
The Pirate been there forever and brings joy to children and grown-ups. The city [of San Diego] is to blame.

E-bike safety definitely needs improvement
My hat is off to the La Jolla girls for doing their homework and maybe opening the eyes and minds of other young e-bike riders (“Three La Jolla Girl Scouts craft e-bike safety presentation for children,” Sept. 12, La Jolla Light).
It’s not the e-bike that is dangerous, it’s the rider, especially in La Jolla. I see it every day — youngsters with two or three riders without helmets on one bike because it’s “not cool to wear a helmet.” Sorry to say, I see more riders with a cup of coffee or cellphone in hand than doing wheelies.
Some e-bikes shipped from overseas have a top speed of 40 mph-plus, well exceeding California’s bike speed laws. Bikes with that speed should be banned from import. They are dangerous and hurting and killing our new generation.
But then, who is enforcing the speed law? It’s not parents who pay for these bikes.
