Alleged hit-run driver arrested in Imperial Beach crash that killed pedestrian

The pedestrian was hit by a car just before 11 p.m. on Connecticut Street near Imperial Beach Boulevard and deputies arrested the suspect less than a half-mile away

PUBLISHED:

A 62-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision in Imperial Beach late Wednesday night that killed a pedestrian.

Sheriff’s officials said the victim was hit by a car just before 11 p.m. on Connecticut Street near Imperial Beach Boulevard.

When deputies arrived, they found her lying on the ground. Paramedics attempted to revive her, but she died before she could be taken to a hospital. The woman’s age and name weren’t released.

Deputies learned through their investigation that a red Chevrolet Camaro with a black racing pinstripe was seen leaving the area and was likely involved in the collision, said sheriff’s Sgt. Luis Carrillo. They did not say how they identified the car.

With the help of a sheriff’s helicopter, they located the suspect vehicle on Oneonta Avenue, less than a half-mile away.

Deputies arrested Eric Cox, who they said was the owner and driver of the Camaro, on suspicion of manslaughter, felony DUI and felony hit-and-run causing injury or death. Cox was being held in jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked the Imperial Beach sheriff’s substation at (619) 498-2400.
