UPDATED:

The Del Mar Rose Society Board wanted to announce that Kristen and Dave Druker have moved to Bellevue, Washington.

Kristen founded our local chapter Del Mar Rose Society with the American Rose Society as a tribute to honor her mother, a lover of roses, who ed away. She also loved roses and decided to share her ion with her Del Mar community.

Twenty-five years later, the Del Mar Rose Society continues to serve the community with monthly educational programs on growing roses in a coastal environment. Additionally, DMRS serves the public by hosting an annual Rose Show in April at the Del Mar Library which features roses grown in ’ gardens, an Educational Rose Exhibit at the San Diego Fair in June, and every November, a Thanksgiving of Roses in which create and deliver at least 50 bouquets to area seniors the week of Thanksgiving.

Over the years our active rosarian has openly shared her rose growing talents with other DMRS and Southern California. She has entered many of her award-winning roses in local rose shows, and volunteered as a judge all over Southern California.

Kristen was recognized for her outstanding service by the American Rose Society and was awarded the Bronze Award in 2011.

She has been a high school teacher in California for over 30 years, most recently at The Bishop’s School in La Jolla.

She has been recognized for her pioneer work in educational futures and interdisciplinary education, winning the Golden Bell Award from the California School Boards Association for innovative curriculum and honored as one of the first California State Mentor Teachers. In 2010, she was designated a Teacher of the Future by The National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) for her development of Peace Conferencing. A television documentary “Peace Conferencing Games,” based on her work with students, was nominated for an Emmy Award for best educational documentary – Pacific Southwest, 2014.

Most recently she served as the lead instructor for American and Chinese Future Leaders Summer Program at 21st Century China Center, UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy.

We wish Kristen and Dave all the best in their new home in Bellevue, Washington and a joyous new year exploring the Bellevue Botanical Gardens as our gift from the Del Mar Rose Society.  — Del Mar Rose Society board Kathy Cash, Alice Brown, Elizabeth Basin, Helen Abjanac and Glee Thomson
