San Diego’s famous and delicious character steamed buns will be available in Vista this fall as Harumama opens its sixth location in the county.
“We are overwhelmed by the of our local San Diego community and beyond in response to Harumama,” James and Jenny Pyo, the company’s owners, said via email.
Founded in 2017 by the Pyos—who also own Love Boat Sushi, Blue Ocean Robata and Sushi Bar and Blue Smoke Sushi—Harumama broke the internet one cute and tasty themed bun at a time, earning the restaurant brand over 45,000 followers on Instagram.
“People love to snap a photo and are often tagging our socials to share their love for the buns,” said Jaclyn Weidaw, the company’s marketing and social media manager.
From Winnie The Pooh to pandas to the Japanese film character Totoro, the warm seasonal buns are served in bamboo baskets and have savory or sweet fillings such as pulled pork, chicken, barbecue beef, nutella and more.
Harumama has locations in Little Italy, Carlsbad, La Jolla, Ocean Beach and Encinitas. The new Vista outpost will be at 40 Main Street in Vista Village.
The menu, designed by Executive Chef James Pyo, will be unique to Vista and is expected to have at least five beers on tap, along with dishes such as sushi rolls, ramen, skillets and to-go bun boxes. Visitors can expect decorated handmade buns including a koala bun and ube unicorn bun.
Weidaw said Harumama’s skilled team takes pride in creating “everyone’s favorite Asian dishes. It’s truly exciting to see the response we have had and it continues to motivate us to innovate new recipes to share with our customers.”
