Coronado’s tiki-inspired restaurant, The Islander, is bringing some sweetness to the island with its new Dinky Donut Shack.

“We’re making house-made donuts every morning that are miniature in size, so it’s not as big of a commitment to have a bite or two,” said Executive Chef Matt Sramek. “You can eat as many as you’d like.”

The breakfast shack — accessible through the walk-up window in front of The Islander — was previously known as the Dawn Patrol Breakfast Shack.

Developed and owned by Blue Bridge Hospitality (which also owns Mootime Creamery and Liberty Public Market), the donut spot is sprinkling new items on the menu including mini donuts in a variety of seasonal flavors.

Freshly baked in-house, donut flavors range chocolate glaze and maple bacon to churro, cookies and cream, ube, guava glaze, banana nutella and peanut butter cup.

Donuts are sold in packs of three, six and 12.

Other breakfast items include a $5 breakfast sandwich or burrito, along with acai beach bowls and crispy hash browns made in house.

Guests can wash down their breakfast items with coffee beverages made with coffee beans from Cafe Moto, including The Donut Dunker, a specialty beverage with toasted marshmallows, cinnamon syrup, espresso and steamed milk.

A 12-ounce coffee is $1 with the purchase of any food item and a 10% discount is offered to military with a valid military ID.

Sramek said he homes people will come out because the food is “exceptional and we just want to see people happy…”

The Dinky Donut Shack is at 1015 Orange Avenue and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
