OceansideOceanside — Vu Nguyen, a client advocate for high-risk youth with Interfaith Community Services, has been named as president of the Oceanside Promise beginning March 1.
Nguyen replaces Keith Padgett, a long-time advocate of disadvantaged youth in San Diego.
Padgett, 68, was named president of Oceanside Promise last July. He announced his retirement from serving underprivileged youth this week, and is moving to Temecula from Mission Bay to be closer to family.
The Oceanside Promise Foundation seeks to help students within the Oceanside Unified School District. It is the cornerstone of a broader program aimed at offering social services to nudge kids along through school and even provide scholarships to attend college.
It’s the branchild of Duane Coleman, superintendent of Oceanside Unified, who within his first year on the job with the school district pushed for approval of the Oceanside Promise’s nonprofit charter with the IRS and assembled a board.
Nguyen is a client advocate for the Transitional Youth Academy, a prevention and intervention program of Interfaith Community Services for high-risk youth in North San Diego County.
